FAQ

Common Questions

What is Telepsychiatry?

Telepsychiatry connects Providers with their patients via online video sessions. With telepsychiatry, there is no need for either patient or Provider to travel to an office. With a telepsychiatry platform, HIPAA-compliant video sessions can take place from anywhere – all that is needed is a broadband internet connection, a computer or laptop, and a webcam. This convenience expands the Providers’ availability and outreach and makes it easier for clients to participate from the comfort of their homes.

What will happen during the first appointment?

The initial meeting between the client and provider is an extensive interview to obtain a history and psychiatric evaluation. This may last about 45-60 minutes. During this, the Provider will gather information, such as the symptoms, onset, and family dynamics. The Provider will recommend the best action plan for this first session.

How long are follow-up appointments?

Visits depend on multiple factors that are specific to each patient. On average, adult medication management follow-up appointments are initially scheduled at intervals of 2 weeks. After that, the timeline between follow-up appointments increases to 1 month and may expand from this point based
on the needs of the patient and the type(s) of medications prescribed.

Will the treatment be kept confidential?

We will not reveal any information regarding what happens within the work that we do together unless the client has signed the Authorization to Disclose Information or Release of Information form. Suppose the client is in danger of harming him/herself or others, suspected of child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse. In that case, the Provider is obligated by law to notify the authorities of this.

How long will the treatment last?

The Provider cannot make precise determinations regarding the length of treatment. Generally speaking, the longer the symptoms have remained medically acknowledged, the longer the treatment may take. Certain conditions do not require much time to treat, and others considerably more. Certain mental illnesses require just a few visits, and others require lifelong
maintenance. Seeking treatment as soon as possible is vital to achieving the best outcome.
